Merry Christmas! Happy Hanukkah! Happy Kwanzaa!
The holidays are upon us and it’s my favorite time of year. This Christmas will be my first ever spent in Florida. We normally travel to New Hampshire and Maine over the holidays to visit my family, but this year my sister, who also lives here in Florida, is due to have my third nephew, Carson, on January 4th. More than likely, he’s expected to arrive sometime in December so we’re hunkering down for his imminent arrival!
This month’s wallpaper is from the Holly Jolly Jekyll holiday lights celebration on Jekyll Island in Georgia. Jekyll Island was once the playground for some of the wealthiest tycoons during the Golden Age. Families with names like Vanderbilt, Pulitzer, Rockefeller, Morgan, and Baker built the elegant Clubhouse and “cottages” in Victorian architectural styles. The State of Georgia purchased Jekyll Island in 1947 and turned the whole island over to the State Park system. The Park Service has a great trolley tour that takes you into a couple of the “cottages” during each tour. Jekyll Island is also home to the Georgia Sea Turtle Center, another great stop. The Sea Turtle Center takes in injured and sick sea turtles (along with other reptiles), rehabilitates them then releases them back to the wild. Check out my other photos from the Holly Jolly Celebration in my Jekyll Island gallery HERE.
