Springtime in Florida is my favorite time of year. The temperatures are still cool, and there’s zero humidity. I travel as much as possible around the South during this time of year before the temps start to rise in May.
This month’s desktop wallpaper is from Bonaventure Cemetery in Savannah, Georgia. I’ve tried several times to catch the azaleas in full bloom and finally had success a few weeks ago. The avenue of oaks leads to the older Victorian section of the cemetery where the most beautiful monuments and headstones can be found.
One place I love to visit every year is Sapelo Island. It’s located just five miles off the coast of Georgia and is a quick ferry ride to get to. This year we decided to skip the regular tour and instead, we rented a golf cart!
You’re probably from Florida if…the four seasons for you are almost summer, summer, not summer but still hot and February. I think this sums up our seasons here in Florida with one exception: sea turtle nesting season! Nesting season is my favorite time of year here on Amelia Island.
In December 2013, we had an extremely rare visitor to our area. Ms. Snowy, as she would be called, flew all the way from the Arctic down to Little Talbot State Park here in Florida. It was only the third time a snowy owl (Bubo scandiacus) had been spotted in Florida.
One of my monarch butterfly images was recently licensed for the September 2016 issue of National Geographic Kids Magazine! The company I work with doesn’t provide the seller information so I end up Googling myself a lot to find my images. It’s always a great feeling to find my photos in something as cool as a National Geographic magazine.
